Pit bull is a term used in the United States Of America for a type of dog which originates from bulldogs and terriers, while in other countries the term is used as an abbreviation of the American Pit Bull Terrier breed.The term was first used in the late 1920's. Pit bulls are usually considered a heterogeneous grouping that includes the breeds Pit Bull Terrier, Stafford-shire Terrier, American Bully and Stafford-shire Bull Terrier, along with any crossbreed dog that shares certain physical characteristics with Pit Bulls. Most pit bull–like dogs descend from the bull and terrier.
